School's out for Summer!

I'm soooooooooooooo happy right now. I just got home after a long, LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! It is always biter sweet, because no matter how much of a stinker some of my kids have been, it was sweet getting all the hugs this morning. We're off to the lake tomorrow and plan to be back home later next week. Time for some R & R!

I'm ready!

I've been looking for possibly another vehicle with more room. I had a Nissan Maxima and loved it. I had to have one at the time. It was very sporty, yet luxurious, but the tires were very expensive, having to get new ones at 25K miles, and the steering was difficult. It usually took me two tries to get it parked. It was all due to it being sporty. It was hard to haul things as well. It had a nice trunk, but you couldn't get too much past the opening. We tried dealing locally and we always do. I guess we think one day they will give us a good deal. HA! We went to Houston yesterday morning to the same dealer that we bought my Maxima from. The traffic was great and it was such a beautiful day. On the way there we passed a Pathfinder and Robert asked what I thought about it. I told him I liked them, but I bet they get bad gas mileage being a SUV. We were going to look at Muranos. We got there and immediately went to look at gas mileage on the Pathfinder and it very close to what I got in my car. I test drove one and was impressed. We really were wanting something in the cross over, SUV line, because we need something to haul the boat. Robert has a truck that is diesel and it's costing about $5 a gallon these days and going up. Last weekend we went to the lake in it and it gets horrible gas mileage. We used 2 tanks of gas just to drive about 300 miles all together. I don't even want to know how much that cost! We we got a great deal on a Pathfinder and I think I'll be happy with it. It alreay is fixed up to haul a trailer, too! I've never drove a SUV, so it's all new to me. It's got so much room and I'm really ready to haul things around- like a little girl! We were done with all the paper work around 2:00 (5 hours later!), so we decided to head to the Kemah boardwalk, because we were close. Our favorite restaurant is Salt Grass and they have one with a beautiful view of Galveston Bay. It was a beautiful day and I think everyone else and their grandma was in Kemah, too. We had a great meal, great time, and were home before dark in our new ride. I still have another day off and that makes today so much better!

Dog overboard!

Okay.. no big fish yet, but I did have an eventful few hours. We made it to the lake about 2:00 and decided to put the boat in about 4:30. I launched Robert and the boat and waited for him to get back to the camp. 10 minutes went by and I figured something was wrong with the boat. I got back in the truck with the trailer and headed back down to the boat launch. No Robert or boat in sight. I go back to the camp hoping to see him and still no Robert. I start to get really worried so I run in and put on my tennis shoes and start searching the shore line. It's just a few minute boat drive from the launch to the camp and I figured I would see him. I looked everywhere even past the camp in case he decided to go fishing for some weird reason. I walk back to the camp and still no Robert. I start to panic and I'm in tears. I called my mom and ask her what to do. Robert is out on the lake and I don't know where he's at. I know he's not anywhere near our camp. The sun is starting to go down, I'm 2 hours from family, and no one is up here at their camps this weekend. PANIC! Mom said to go back down the shore line and as I started out, an hour after launching the boat, Robert drives up. I was mad to say the least! I won't say how mad I was because I do have a temper side to me that rarely comes out, but I did apologize. He got lost on the lake and didn't take the turn in the boat lanes to the camp. He knew I was worried and I'm sure he was worried too. He was lost for an hour and I had no idea where my husband was!

We decided to go try some fishing for about an hour before the sun went down. Current score- Robert- 1 1/2 (because perch don't count for a whole point) Carey- 0 We took Abby (the dog) with us because it was cool outside and she likes to ride in the boat. The sun was going down and we decided to go back to the camp. I was driving slowly, because we were just around the corner from the camp, and Abby decided to bail out! I cut the engine off and my poor baby was paddling for us. I wanted to jump in to save her, but Robert reminded me that she is a dog and she can swim. She does love to get in the water, but always stays where she can touch. She got to swim in the deep part today! We backed up and I pulled her wet self up in the boat and she soaked us both down with the dog shake they all do when they're wet! I called my parents to tell them about what happened and they told us to just come home and stay away from water. LOL! Hopefully tomorrow will be a little calmer. This made for a great post, didn't it?

Toledo Bend

Since a faithful reader requested that I post, here it is. I'm sorry I haven't posted; there just hasn't been anything too exciting to blog about. The last month has been busy! The school year is winding down, 9 more days, so I barely have time to breathe. Last weekend we celebrated Mother's Day at our new home and we had a great time. I wanted to host it to keep my mind off the whole holiday. This is the first year that I actually felt weird, because I wasn't pursuing being a mother. That's hopefully about to all change.
I did take the day off today so we could enjoy the weekend at the lake. It's been since September since we've been there, so we're super excited to get away and try some fishing. Maybe I'll catch a big one this weekend and I'll have something exciting to blog about!
